When I Get Heartburn I Know I Am One Of The Lucky Ones

Heartburn and acid reflux are sometimes a problem but I think myself lucky because for me it is an unusual event that rarely occurs. Heartburn is a very uncomfortable and unpleasant sensation that happens rarely for most of us but some people find they simply have to cope with occasional acid reflux.

When I get a bout of heartburn I find it can disappear again
almost as quickly as it arrives. Not everyone is so fortunate and many people find the symptoms of heartburn are a frequent problem it becomes a normal event and they learn how to deal with it.

The cause of heartburn is most commonly the failure of a valve in the back of the throat known as a sphincter valve. This valve is supposed to remain closed to prevent acidic stomach gases rising up and causing damage the lining of your throat but unfortunately it sometimes fails and allows the gasses to rise and cause discomfort and damage to your throat lining. Knowing this makes it easy to understand the burning feelings felt when the valve fails and we have acid reflux or heartburn symptoms.

If this situation were allowed to continue for a long period of time the lining protecting the tissues of the throat could become damaged the odd bout of mild heartburn does not usually cause prolonged health worries. It is very important that any medical condition is properly investigate so seek a diagnosis from a trained medical practitioner to be sure about your health and be guided accordingly.

We do have some practical options which may help relieve the symptoms of heartburn and reduce the frequency of attacks. Heartburn and acid reflux do seem to occur for me if I am feeling tired so it seems logical managing to have plenty of good sleep helps a lot.

We do hear of certain foods which can increase incidences where heartburn occurs and reducing coffee consumption can help as may reducing how much spicy food you eat. It may be that smoking can prove to be a factor in heartburn and I expect this is due to the smoke having an effect on the throat lining and making matters worse.

So often we hear about health problems that can be reduced through a more balanced and healthy diet together with a regime of exercise and good sleeping patterns may help. A healthy lifestyle may reduce the effects and frequency of experiencing heartburn and all of the symptoms of acid reflux.
