If you have made up your mind that you are ready to lose weight, it is a good idea to make some goals. The goals are up to you but they should be something you really want to achieve. They should also be ones that are achievable but will take work.

After the goals are decided on, you need a plan to get there. The plan needs to have two components. One is what your diet is going to be like. The other is how you are going to exercise. You can only lose weight by burning more calories than you take in. And if you want to be healthy, you have to eat properly and not starve yourself.

If you are not going to starve yourself, then you need to be exercising to burn off the calories you are eating. At least when you are getting started, you may want to work with a personal trainer. A trainer can design the right workout program for you to reach your goals.

Sometimes people make their weight loss goals include the amount of pounds they want to lose or how much they want to weigh. Others measure it in being able to wear a particular size of clothing. For still others, it is they type of clothing they want to wear. For example, they may want to lose enough weight to be able to wear skinny jeans.

The fit of clothing is a good measure, actually. As you work out, you will gain muscle. Since fat is not as heavy as muscle, it is easy to become frustrated if you gain a few pounds in the beginning. It is important to look at more than your scale.

Give yourself some goals to achieve as you go along so you can be motivated when you reach them. It will help to keep you following the plan. When you reach a goal, you should reward yourself but with something besides food.

Let the jeans keep you motivated to keep your good habits. In fact, you can have a mental picture of the outfit you want to wear when you reach your final goal. There could be a brown boot that goes perfectly with the jeans. You can even make your intermediary rewards be the accessories for your outfit such as the boots, earrings and a necklace.

If you keep working on your plan and do not give up, you will be there before you know it. It takes hard work and dedication but it will be worth it. Especially when you have the after photo taken in your new clothes.
