Someone interviewing you for a job will begin to judge you based on your appearance. More than having an impressive resume, what you're wearing will also speak for you. That is why it's important to consider what you'll be dressed in, to impress the interviewer.
Wear a matching conservative two-piece suit. Dark gray, navy, brown and black are safe colors to wear. Choose a suit with a solid color. Or if you wish to go for patterned ones, go for fine weave or plaid. Put on a matching blouse underneath the suit's jacket.
You can either wear a pair of pants or skirt. For pants, they should be well-tailored, and not too close-fitting as jean skinny. For skirts, pick something that's about below knee-length. Something longer than that is fine, as long as you can walk freely in them. No high slits, please. Most women prefer pants over skirts so they can sit comfortably before the interviewer. And not worry about exposing themselves accidentally.
You don't want to walk in the room with jingling metal sounds. That is why you should opt for simple jewelry items that are corporate looking. The same is true with other fashion accessories you're intending to sport. If you wish to carry a purse, go for something that matches your suit. Avoid clutching something too flashy or massive.
Momentarily stay away from women's brown boots, strappy sandals, chunky platforms and flashy stilettos. Instead, pick a pair of simple, closed-toe shoes. You can go for flats or heeled that's about an inch or two high. Also, wear conservative nylon stockings when showing up in a skirt for the interview.
Also, make sure you can walk comfortably in your shoes. The day before the job interview, practice walking in the shoes you're planning to wear. Especially if you just bought them! You don't want to trip as you approach the interviewer. That's not really going to be a pretty first impression.
Wearing no make up at all might get the interviewer into thinking you're not prepared or interested. So it's much better to wear make-up. But do apply minimally, and use subtle hues. Steer clear of scents that are too strong. Go for lightly-scented eau de parfum spray, and do apply modestly. Keep your fingernails clean and clipped.
